Meanwhile, reinforcements from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), such as CRPF and BSF, have been deployed to Manipur following their duties in various locations across the country during the recent Lok Sabha elections, due to the tense atmosphere prevailing in parts of Manipur. As the situation in Jiribam district, bordering southern Assam, has slightly improved, the district administration has eased the curfew for four and a half hours starting from 9;00 a.m. on Wednesday.
The curfew was enforced in Jiribam district with a diverse population following the murder of a 59-year-old farmer, leading to approximately 900 tribals from the Kuki and Hmar communities seeking refuge with relatives and friends in two villages in the Cachar district of southern Assam. Moreover, around 1,000 individuals, predominantly from the Meitei community, are currently residing in seven relief camps in Jiribam.
These incidents occurred after Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a high-level meeting in New Delhi on Monday to assess the security situation in Manipur and instructed officials to prevent any further violent events in the northeastern state.
