Pune, West Bengal – A shocking incident involving the theft of pure gold valued at Rs 2 crore has been reported, as artisans entrusted with creating jewelry absconded with the precious metal. The Faraskhana police have registered a case against five artisans connected to the theft, which has sent ripples through the local jewelry community. The accused individuals have been identified as Mohammad Mithun Sheikh, also known as Antik, along with his relatives Rahul, Shamim, Sunny Sheikh, and Rajeev Sheikh, all hailing from West Bengal.

The complaint was filed by Jameer Ibrahim Shaikh, a 45-year-old jewelry business owner and proprietor of Z Jewelers and Enterprises located in Ganesh Peth. According to Jameer Shaikh, the artisans were entrusted with pure gold to create ornaments, a practice that has been customary in the goldsmith market where he operates. The gold was kept securely in a vault, to which only Jameer, his manager Amin, and the accused Mohammad had access. Over the past few years, the family had developed a trusting relationship with Mohammad, who had been working within their jewelry-making operations.

The theft came to light on Saturday when it was discovered that approximately 4,500 grams of gold had been stolen from the safe. Following the alarming revelation, Jameer Shaikh began his inquiries, leading to the grim conclusion that Mohammad and his relatives had vanished with the gold. In response to the incident, Senior Police Inspector Prashant Bhasme and Crime Branch Inspector Ajit Jadhav promptly visited the scene to assess the situation.

The police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects, with Sub-Inspector Arvind Shinde assigned to lead the investigation. As authorities continue to search for the fleeing artisans, the jewelry community remains on high alert, concerned about the implications of such a betrayal. The case serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities within the industry and the trust placed in those who craft exquisite pieces of jewelry for consumers. Further updates are anticipated as the investigation unfolds.
