The first phase of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro project is underway in Pune. The three-coach metro train is completely indigenously developed by Alstom at its plant in Sri City (Andhra Pradesh). The metro will reach Man station on Sunday (June 2). The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar project has been taken up by the Tata Group on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis through the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, has been formed for its operationalisation. Tata Group has contracted Alstom to provide a total of 22 train sets with three coaches each for the project. Each train can run at a maximum speed of 85 kmph. These trains have been designed to provide a pleasant experience to the people of Pune while traveling from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar every day.

While designing and decorating the interiors of these trains, special attention has been paid to the needs and comfort of the passengers. Neha Pandit, Director, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, said, "The colour scheme, attractive design, ease of accessibility for physically challenged passengers are the hallmarks of Pune Metro Rail.
