New Delhi: A Vistara flight bound for Frankfurt was forced to return to Delhi on Sunday after Afghan authorities denied it access to their airspace due to a bomb threat. The flight, UK25, which operates a Boeing 787 and carries more than 240 passengers, took off from Delhi at approximately 1:10 PM. According to sources, the bomb threat was classified as “non-specific,” prompting initial plans for the flight to continue its journey. However, Afghanistan's aviation authorities made the decision to prohibit the aircraft from overflying their airspace, resulting in a swift return to Delhi.
The flight successfully landed back at Delhi Airport around 4:20 PM. In a statement on social media platform X, Vistara confirmed that Flight UK25 was returning to Delhi and also noted that it had received security threats related to six other flights earlier that day. Despite a surge in bomb threats affecting nearly 100 flights this week—many of which have turned out to be hoaxes there has been no immediate comment from Vistara regarding this specific incident.
As Flight UK25 circled in Pakistani airspace and briefly entered Afghanistan airspace before turning back, travelers were left to wonder about the safety measures in place during their journeys. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding air travel security in the region, as airlines and authorities work to ensure the safety of passengers amidst rising threats. Passengers onboard the flight are reported to be safe, and authorities are likely to conduct further investigations into the bomb threat that prompted this unusual turn of events.
