New Delhi, India – In a significant move to enhance connectivity and travel options, Air India and Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced an expansion of their codeshare agreement on Wednesday, introducing a total of 51 new destinations. The expansion, effective from October 27, will elevate the airlines’ weekly scheduled codeshare services between India and Singapore from 14 to 56. The new agreement enables SIA to codeshare on Air India’s domestic flights connecting major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata to various Indian destinations, including Amritsar, Coimbatore, and Varanasi.
This expanded collaboration will allow Air India customers to access an impressive 29 destinations across SIA’s extensive international network, which includes cities in Australia, Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines, among others. Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, expressed enthusiasm about the expanded partnership, stating, “We are excited to offer our guests greater connectivity to destinations across South East Asia, the Far East, and Australasia. We also look forward to welcoming Singapore Airlines customers on board our flights within India, as well as westward to multiple points across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East via our hubs in India.”
The newly added international destinations available through the codeshare include major cities like Tokyo, Seoul, and Kuala Lumpur, broadening travel options for both airlines' customers. In return, SIA customers will gain access to Air India’s international routes from key Indian cities to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, such as Paris, Frankfurt, and Nairobi. Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer of Singapore Airlines, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, stating, “It demonstrates our commitment to meeting the high demand for air travel between India and Singapore and beyond, and contributing to the growth of both aviation markets.
Adding Air India’s domestic network to our codeshare arrangements will also offer our customers enhanced connectivity and convenience in India, which is a key market for the SIA Group.” This expansion marks the first substantial enhancement of the codeshare partnership since 2010 and is a testament to the growing demand for air travel between the two nations. Both airlines aim to progressively introduce additional destinations into their codeshare arrangements, promising travelers even more options in the near future. As travel resumes post-pandemic, this partnership is set to make it easier for passengers to explore new horizons across Asia and beyond.
