Kalyan, India — In a shocking incident that has raised grave concerns about child safety, a minor girl was reportedly sexually assaulted by a family friend during a trip to Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, with her mother. The incident allegedly occurred between April 2022 and April 2024 and has since prompted a police investigation under the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse Act. The family had traveled to Rishikesh for tourism, accompanied by a friend of the mother.
During their stay at a local hotel, the friend is accused of administering a drug known as "gungi" into the girl’s drink. Taking advantage of the situation, he is alleged to have molested and assaulted the minor girl while her mother was present. The horrifying reality of the assault came to light when the victim, upon regaining her clarity, confided in her father about the incident. Distressed and angered by the betrayal, the father promptly filed a complaint at the Khadakpada police station against both his wife and her friend.
Authorities from the Khadakpada police have initiated an investigation, with Women Assistant Police Inspector A. N. Ghaste leading the case. The police are in the process of coordinating with officials in Uttarakhand to gather evidence and details surrounding the incident, which occurred in the Laxman Jhula area.
