Guwahati The flood tide situation in Assam bettered hardly as the number of people reeling under the deluge in 27 sections dropped to around18.80 lakh, officers said on Tuesday. The risk in this time’s flood tide, landslide and storm rose to 85 with six further deaths reported on Monday, they said.

Several major gutters, including the Brahmaputra, continued to flow over the peril position at different places with a cast of rain in isolated places. The affected population was in 27 sections as compared to nearly22.75 lakh people suffering from the deluge on Sunday, the officers said. Dhubri with nearly4.75 lakh people reeling under water was the worst- hit quarter, followed by Cachar with over2.01 lakh and Barpeta with nearly1.36 lakh suffering from the flood tide.

The administration has been operating 543 camps and relief distribution centres in 25 sections, taking care of displaced people at present, the officers said. Deliverance operations by multiple agencies, including National Disaster Response Force( NDRF) and SDRF are being carried out across the affected areas.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati said on Monday that a volcanic rotation lies over Assam and neighbourhoods up to1.5 km above the mean ocean position.

In the coming 24 hours, showers and lightning are veritably likely to do at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, it added. The Brahmaputra swash is flowing above the peril mark at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati, and Dhubri. Other major gutters that have traduced the red mark are Subansiri at Badatighat, Burhidihing at Chenimari, Dikhou at Sivasagar, Disang at Nanglamuraghat, Kopili at Dharamtul, Barak at BP Ghat, Sankosh at Golokganj and Kushiyara at Karimganj city.

Damage to structure, including dikes, roads and islands, has been reported from different corridor of the state, the officers added.
