Navi Mumbai - In a troubling revelation, three police officers have come under scrutiny for allegedly collecting fines without providing receipts while conducting vehicle checks. The incident came to light following a formal complaint from Vikram Khot, a driver for a domestic gas delivery company, who reported the misconduct at the Nerul Police Station. The accused officers, identified as Swapnil Deore, Vishal Dakhne, and Sachin Borkar, are stationed at the police headquarters and were reportedly conducting vehicle checks along the Uran Phata to Uran route.
During one of these checks, they intercepted Khot’s tempo, which was transporting domestic gas cylinders for delivery. According to Khot’s account, the policemen confiscated his driving license and insisted that he accompany them to Sector 19 in Nerul. There, they claimed that Khot’s Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate and vehicle registration had expired. In a seemingly unlawful act, they demanded a payment of three thousand rupees as a fine but failed to issue a receipt for the transaction.
Feeling compelled to take action, Khot lodged a complaint against the three officers, leading to a formal investigation by the Nerul police. Authorities have since registered a case against Deore, Dakhne, and Borkar, and the matter is currently under review. This incident raises serious concerns regarding police conduct and the integrity of law enforcement officials. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any similar incidents of misconduct to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability within the police force.
