Gadchiroli, Maharashtra – In a significant operation, the Gadchiroli police successfully dismantled a major assassination plot orchestrated by Naxalites, resulting in the death of five militants during an intense encounter in the Koparshi forest along the Chhattisgarh border. The encounter, which began in the early hours of the morning, came as authorities heightened their vigilance in anticipation of potential Naxalite activities leading up to the upcoming assembly elections. The confrontation erupted when Naxalites opened fire on security personnel engaged in an anti-Naxal operation.

The police responded decisively, leading to a fierce firefight that lasted until late afternoon. In addition to the five Naxalites who were killed, one police jawan sustained injuries and has been airlifted to a district hospital in Gadchiroli for treatment. The operation has been hailed as a testament to the effectiveness of the ongoing anti-Naxalite campaign, which has significantly weakened the Maoist movement in the region. The police reported that several other Naxalites have been either killed or have surrendered in previous encounters, leading to a leaderless situation within the organization.

Superintendent of Police Nilotpal revealed that in response to this encounter, a substantial deployment of security forces, including 22 units of the C-60 squad and two units of the CRPF's Rapid Action Force, have been dispatched to reinforce operations in the area. “We are actively conducting search operations to ensure the region is secure and to identify any additional Naxalites who may have escaped,” stated SP Nilotpal. The increased presence of Naxalites in the Koparshi forest has raised concerns among law enforcement, particularly as they anticipate further threats during the politically charged assembly election period.

Police sources indicate that the Naxalites have been using the dense forests as cover to infiltrate Gadchiroli, complicating efforts to maintain safety and order in the region. As the investigation continues and more details emerge, the Gadchiroli police remain committed to countering Naxalite activities and protecting the community from potential violence. The bodies of the deceased Naxalites have been recovered and efforts to identify them are underway. With the situation evolving, authorities are on high alert to prevent any further threats as the elections draw near.
