Pune, India – A surge in cyber fraud targeting unsuspecting investors has left three residents of Pune reeling after losing a staggering ₹90 lakh. The scams, which promise lucrative returns from stock market investments, have led to multiple complaints filed at Hadapsar, Vishrantwadi, and Kothrud police stations. In a recent incident, a woman residing in Kothrud reported that she was targeted by cyber criminals who sent her a text message enticing her to invest in the stock market for significant profits.

Falling prey to the scheme, she deposited ₹24 lakh 18 thousand over five months, only to find that no refunds were forthcoming. Alarmed by the growing realization of fraud, she lodged a formal complaint with local authorities. Crime Branch Police Inspector Vikram Singh Kadam is currently leading the investigation into this case. Similarly, another victim from Vishrantwadi lost ₹41 lakh 57 thousand under the same pretext, with a complaint filed at the Vishrantwadi police station. Inspector Kadam is also overseeing this investigation.

In a related case, a citizen from the Hadapsar area reported being cheated out of ₹25 lakh by the same deceptive tactics. The alarming trend of stock market investment scams has seen a marked increase in Pune and surrounding areas over the past year. Cyber thieves have reportedly siphoned off crores of rupees from victims, many of whom are highly educated individuals. Despite repeated warnings from the police to be vigilant and avoid falling for investment scams, many continue to ignore these advisories.

Authorities urge the public to remain cautious and skeptical of unsolicited investment offers, emphasizing the need for thorough research before engaging in financial transactions. As investigations continue, the police remain committed to apprehending the culprits and protecting residents from further fraud.
