Hyderabad: Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau to Intensify Drug Clampdown
In a decisive move to combat the growing menace of drug abuse among the youth, the Telangana State Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TSANB) has announced plans to ramp up its efforts in curbing the sale and consumption of illegal substances in Hyderabad. The initiative follows a series of recent raids conducted across various pubs and clubs in the city, where authorities have started taking action against both dealers and consumers. Senior officials from the TSANB revealed that, in addition to targeting known hotspots, they are now focusing on monitoring local colleges to deter drug-related activities among students.
"Our officers are trained to identify individuals who exhibit signs of disorientation, which could indicate drug influence," a senior TSANB official stated. This strategy is part of a broader initiative to create a safer environment for the city's youth. The TSANB has been conducting random urine tests on party-goers in popular nightlife spots. Despite facing criticism from some community members regarding the tests, officials maintain that these operations are based on credible intelligence about specific drug-related activities. "We have information on gangs that are actively trying to ensnare individuals into drug usage.
Recently, we even apprehended a high court advocate in possession of Ganja at a private party," the official disclosed. The ongoing clampdown is driven by a commitment to protect young people from the dangers of drug abuse, which is perceived to be an escalating problem within the city. "Our raids and testing protocols are not arbitrary; they are informed by intelligence on consumer behavior and gang activities. When specific gangs frequent bars or clubs, we make our move," the official emphasized. As the TSANB intensifies its operations, the recent raids have led to multiple arrests, including several DJs who tested positive for drug use. The department's actions underscore a dedicated effort to eradicate the drug culture infiltrating Hyderabad's nightlife and safeguard the well-being of its residents.
