New Delhi – The Canada High Commission in Chanakyapuri has heightened its security measures following a significant protest by Hindu and Sikh groups denouncing a violent incident at a Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada. The protest, which took place on November 3, saw many Sikh demonstrators clashing with individuals carrying Khalistani flags, resulting in widespread condemnation from both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Indian government. In response to the unrest, Delhi Police reinforced their presence outside the High Commission, implementing barricades to maintain order. Officers were observed urging protestors to remain behind the barriers as tensions escalated. “We have deployed additional force and barricadings have been done outside of the High Commission of Canada following a protest march call.

Our teams are not allowing anyone to breach the law and order,” stated a senior police officer. The demonstration was organized by the Hindu Sikh Global Forum, which claimed that over 1,200 Sikhs participated, including around 300 women. The forum asserted that it submitted a memorandum to the Canadian Embassy, demanding an immediate investigation and appropriate action against those responsible for the violence at the temple. In a statement, the forum expressed that the Sikh community has historically contributed to the temple's construction and is firmly against the allegations that seek to divide Hindus and Sikhs. "The kind of allegations being leveled against the community are being made to divide Hindus and Sikhs, which the community will never tolerate,” the statement read. As tensions continue to rise over the situation, both the Canadian and Indian governments are urged to address the concerns of their communities to prevent further discord.
