Many of the older generation know the play 'He is not me' written by Acharya Atre and performed by Prabhakar Panshikar on the Marathi stage. Lakhoba Lokhande, the accused in this play, denies the allegations against him by performing various songs. One such Lakhoba Lokhande has been arrested in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The 34-year-old accused, who identified himself as a police officer, married five women at a time. Lakhs of rupees were also collected. After questioning, the police found that the accused was in talks with 49 more women on the matrimonial site.

The accused has been identified as Satyajit Samal. Following separate complaints by two of the five wives whom Satyajit had married, the police took women officers and laid a trap for Satyajit. Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner Sanjib Panda said that the profile of the woman officer was prepared. Satyajit was arrested when he came to negotiate the marriage.


The police recovered a motorcycle, Rs. 2.10 lakh in cash, a pistol, cartridges and some marriage-related documents from the accused. During interrogation, Satyajit confessed that he was married to the two women who had complained against him. Of his five wives, two are from Odisha, one from Kolkata and one from Delhi. The fifth wife is being questioned. Police have frozen three bank accounts of Satyajit.

How to deal with the accused?
The accused is a native of Odisha's Jajpur district. At present, he is residing in Bhubaneswar. From the matrimonial site, he used to make widows and divorced women his concubines. After the marriage, he used to demand a car and cash from the girl's family. After the marriage, he used to silence them by threatening them with a pistol if they demanded their money back.
The investigation began in February after a woman came forward with a complaint. The woman got acquainted with the accused Satyajit through a bride-groom referral website. The accused forced her into a physical relationship with the promise of marriage. He then asked for money and a car. The woman had taken a personal loan of Rs 8.15 lakh. He also paid Rs 36 lakh to start the business as per the demand of the accused.

According to another complaint, another woman gave Rs 8.60 lakh to Satyajit. He also took a bike. The woman had also fulfilled the demands of accused Satyajit by taking personal loans from various banks.

Police Commissioner Panda said that Satyajit was accustomed to living the life of a chain. After extorting money from women, he used to flee to Dubai and return only when he found another saviour. After Satyajit's arrest, more victims are expected to come forward, police said.
