Bhubaneswar, Odisha – As the state braces for the probable formation of cyclonic storm 'Dana' off the Odisha coast on October 23, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Deoranjan Kumar Singh, announced on Sunday that the administration is fully prepared to face the impending threat. Speaking at a media briefing after a review meeting led by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Singh emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring 'Zero Casualty' during this natural disaster. “The administration is fully prepared to face the cyclone situation.
I appeal to all the people to remain alert but not get panicky unnecessarily, as we have sufficient time until October 23,” Singh stated, urging residents to stay informed and follow safety protocols. In coordination with the Central government, the state has mobilized resources, including teams from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Fire Services, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which are poised for deployment in vulnerable regions. District collectors have been instructed to hold meetings on Monday to assess the need for additional resources and ensure readiness.
The SRC’s office has issued clear guidelines, advising fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea from October 21 to 26 and urging those currently at sea to return to shore. Control rooms are set to operate 24/7 to monitor the situation and assist residents. In anticipation of the storm, collectors have been directed to prepare cyclone shelters, maintain provisions for drinking water, and ensure adequate lighting. Special attention is being given to pregnant women whose Estimated Date of Delivery (EDD) falls within the next two weeks, with plans to transfer them to nearby hospitals for safety.
Singh also highlighted the importance of readiness in districts under red, orange, and yellow weather warnings, emphasizing vigilance against potential waterlogging and landslides in hilly areas. He urged residents to stay away from affected zones and seek safer locations. To bolster this preparedness, all leaves for state government staff have been canceled, ensuring that personnel are available to manage and respond to the emergency. Meanwhile, State Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra warned against black marketing and hoarding of essential commodities, promising stringent action against offenders. As Odisha gears up for the storm, authorities remain focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents, reinforcing the message that vigilance and preparedness are key in the face of nature's challenges.
