In a shocking incident that highlights the growing menace of cyber fraud, a young woman from the Parmar Park area of Wanwadi has been cheated out of ₹13,12,000 under the guise of a life insurance policy. The Wanwadi police have registered a case against the cybercriminals following the woman's complaint. The ordeal began five months ago when the victim received a call from individuals posing as representatives of a well-known life insurance company. They inquired about her existing policy and its annual payments, eventually convincing her that she needed to provide her bank account information for a supposed refund related to her policy. Under the pretense of a refund, the thieves manipulated the young woman into depositing a total of ₹13,32,000 into a bank account they provided.

As the scams escalated, the fraudsters demanded even more money, prompting the victim to become suspicious and investigate further. It was at this point that she realized she had fallen victim to a well-orchestrated con. The Wanwadi police, led by Inspector Jadhav, are currently investigating the case. Authorities have noted that this type of fraud is not uncommon, with cyber thieves often targeting individuals with promises of refunds or urgent policy payments. Sadly, many victims, including senior citizens, have previously fallen prey to similar scams. As investigations continue, police advise the public to exercise caution when sharing personal information, particularly over the phone. They urge anyone who suspects they may have been targeted by such scams to report the incident to law enforcement immediately.
