Sochi, Russia : In a compelling address at an event held in Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised India, asserting that the nation deserves a place among the world's superpowers. Emphasizing India’s rapidly growing economy and immense population, Putin expressed his belief that the country has all the qualifications to be recognized as a global leader. “India's economy is growing faster than any other country, and India deserves to be included in the list of world superpowers,” Putin declared. His remarks underscored the longstanding friendship and partnership between Russia and India, which he noted has flourished over decades. “Russia is strengthening relations with India from all sides, and there is great trust between the two countries,” he added.
Putin pointed out that India, with a population exceeding one billion and an annual growth of approximately ten million, holds significant potential for development. “With an ancient culture and a promising future, India should undoubtedly be included in the list of superpowers,” he asserted. The Russian leader also took a moment to reflect on the historical ties between the two nations, highlighting the role of the Soviet Union in India's struggle for independence. He reinforced the notion that India has been a reliable friend and collaborator across various fields. “Since India's independence, the two countries have forged a unique relationship based on quality, trust, and cooperation,” Putin stated. During his address, Putin mentioned India’s impressive GDP growth rate of 7.4 percent and the increasing collaboration between the two nations, estimating bilateral trade at around $60 billion.
He remarked, “Our cooperation is increasing in different areas,” reiterating the depth of the partnership. Putin's comments on the close ties between Russia and India were particularly notable. Reflecting on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Russia for the 16th BRICS summit, he humorously stated, “Our relations are so close that no translator is needed.” This comment elicited laughter from the audience, including Prime Minister Modi, who appreciated the light-hearted moment. As the global landscape continues to evolve, Putin's endorsement of India's status as a potential superpower signals a strong commitment to furthering bilateral relations and recognizing the significant role India plays on the world stage.
