Thane, Maharashtra – A disturbing case of sexual abuse and domestic violence has come to light in Thane, drawing attention to the vulnerabilities faced by individuals with disabilities. A 26-year-old woman, described as mentally and physically challenged, has been allegedly abused by her stepfather and beaten by her step-sister’s husband. This revelation was made public on Thursday, following a formal complaint filed by the victim's elder brother at the Chitalsar police station.

The victim, who has a speech impairment and limited mobility due to a disability in one leg, had been living in a household fraught with turmoil. Following the death of her mother on September 24 due to a serious illness, her elder brother took her into his care, only to discover the extent of her suffering. Reports indicate that the victim had been subjected to years of sexual abuse by her stepfather while simultaneously enduring physical violence at the hands of her step-sister's husband.

Upon closer examination, her brother observed visible marks of abuse on the victim’s forehead and body. When prompted about her injuries, the victim was able to communicate through gestures, recounting the horrific experiences she had endured. A subsequent medical examination confirmed repeated instances of sexual assault and physical abuse. The police have taken swift action, registering a case against both accused parties based on the brother's complaint.

Local authorities are now investigating the matter, aiming to bring justice to the victim while also highlighting the critical need for protective measures for vulnerable individuals within domestic environments. As this case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to safeguard the rights and well-being of disabled individuals, ensuring they are protected from abuse and violence in their own homes.

Community advocates are calling for increased awareness and resources to prevent such tragic situations from occurring in the future.
