He expressed optimism that the aircraft produced at this facility would eventually be available for export, enhancing India's standing in global defense markets. The ambitious project involves the procurement of 56 C-295 transport aircraft, a deal valued at approximately ₹21,000 crore, which aims to replace the aging Avro-748 planes currently in operation by the Indian Air Force. Under the agreement, Airbus will deliver the first 16 aircraft in ‘fly-away’ condition from its assembly line in Seville, Spain, within the next four years. The subsequent 40 aircraft will be manufactured and assembled in India by TASL, establishing a robust industrial partnership between the two companies.

The Vadodara facility will encompass a comprehensive ecosystem for the aircraft, including manufacturing, assembly, testing, qualification, delivery, and maintenance throughout the aircraft's life cycle. In addition to Tata, prominent defense public sector units such as Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics will contribute to the program, alongside private micro, small, and medium enterprises. Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the assembly line in October 2022, and the facility is anticipated to create significant employment opportunities and stimulate technological advancements in the region.

During the inauguration, both leaders participated in a celebratory roadshow from the airport to the TASL facility, showcasing the camaraderie between the two nations. Highlighting the impact of Sanchez's visit on India-Spain relations, Modi remarked, “Today, with the inauguration of the C-295 plant, a new chapter of our partnership has begun.” He noted the strong cooperation between the two nations in various sectors, including economy, defense, pharmaceuticals, IT, science and technology, and renewable energy.
