MUMBAI: The state cabinet on Wednesday approved the Maharashtra Logistics Policy, which will create about five lakh direct and indirect jobs in the state in the next five years and generate revenue of Rs 30,000 crore for the state government. Under this policy, an International Logistics Park will be set up in Navi Mumbai and logistics centers will be set up on 10,000 acres of land across the state.
The policy will completely exempt small and micro enterprises in the 'logistics' sector, which provide manpower, transport services, storage and distribution systems, from prior approval. The state government will also provide facilities to small entrepreneurs through the Friendship Cell. As per the recommendations of the State Economic Advisory Council, the Department of Industries has prepared this policy keeping in view the development of the state in the next 10 years. The Maharashtra Maritime Board, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, Mumbai Port Trust, State Road Development Corporation, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, CIDCO and Maharashtra Airport Development Company will participate in the policy.
Accordingly, dedicated logistics infrastructure will be developed in more than 10,000 acres by 2029 in the state. This will generate about 5 lakh direct and indirect employment in the state. Also, the state is expected to earn around Rs 30,573 crore through this policy.
Navi Mumbai International Centre
An international logistics hub will be developed on 2,000 acres in the Navi Mumbai-Pune area adjacent to the new international airport at Panvel. With the industrial estates of Taloja, Patalganga, Chemicals, Khopeli, Mahad, Roha, Chakan and Talegaon in the region, Panvel will become a major centre of international trade and industry. Rs 1500 crore will be allocated for the development of this hub.
