Badlapur: The Barvi dam of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), which is feeding the thirst of Thane district, had 92 per cent water by Sunday evening. Due to heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday evening, the water level in the dam rase by 10 per cent in just a few hours. More than 200 mm of rainfall was recorded in the dam area on Saturday and Sunday. Most of the municipal corporations, municipalities and industrial estates in the district get water supply from the Barvi dam. On July 23, the Barvi dam had 51 per cent water storage. Heavy rains over the past few days have caused the rivers to swell. If the rain continues, the Barvi dam is likely to be filled to its full capacity.
The alert has been issued for Karand, Moriachapada, Chana, Rahatoli, Aghanwadi, Phanswadi, Wakdichiwadi and other areas along the river. The water level of Ulhas river, which flows through Badlapur city, rose sharply by Sunday afternoon. The water was flowing at a height of 16.30 m against the warning level of 16.50 m. Traffic on the Kalyan-Ahmednagar highway came to a standstill as a result.
