Due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of Khadakwasla, Pavana, Mulshi and Chasakaman dams in Pune district, the discharge from these dams is increasing. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed the Divisional Commissioner, the concerned District Collector, the Municipal Commissioner and the concerned senior officials to take care of the safety of the people in the villages, floodplains and low-lying areas of Krishnakath as there is a large discharge from the Koyna Dam as well as from the floodplains of the rivers in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad city and the surrounding areas. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has also appealed to the citizens to take care of their own safety and cooperate with the administration.

At present, the discharge from Khadakwasla dam is 27,016 cusecs, Mulshi 27,609 cusecs, Pawan 5,000 cusecs and Chasakaman dam 8,50 cusecs. If there is heavy rain in the catchment area, the water level is likely to rise. In view of this, an alert has been issued to the people of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and nearby areas along the flood lines and low-lying areas.

As a precautionary measure, people living along the floodplains of rivers in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and surrounding areas should take shelter in safe places. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed the villagers of Krishnakath as well as the people living near the flood line to take necessary precautions and the administration should also take measures for their safe evacuation as the Koyna dam is also discharging at a speed of 5,000 cusecs.
