Amethi, Uttar Pradesh – A devastating incident unfolded on Thursday in Amethi, where a school teacher and his entire family were brutally murdered following a domestic dispute linked to a premarital affair. Sunil Kumar, 34, a government school teacher, was found dead alongside his wife and two young daughters, with authorities identifying the primary suspect as Chandan Verma. According to police reports, Sunil discovered his wife’s affair with Chandan on August 18 and subsequently filed a complaint against him under the SC/ST Act, claiming that Chandan had threatened their family.
The complaint warned that Chandan should be held accountable for any harm that befalls them. Despite the initial legal action, the situation escalated further as Chandan allegedly resumed harassment. Witnesses reported that Chandan, emboldened by his previous interactions with Sunil's wife, barged into the family’s home and unleashed a horrific act of violence. Eyewitness accounts suggest that before the murders, Chandan ominously declared on social media that “people would die today.”
On the fateful day, he shot Sunil three times, his wife twice, and each daughter once, leaving their bodies near the courtyard tap, approximately ten feet apart. Local resident Ram Manohar Yadav, who owns a nearby medical store, heard the gunfire and quickly rushed to the scene, where he was met with the chilling sight of the bloodied family. He immediately contacted the authorities. Sunil Kumar, who had previously served in the UP Police, began teaching at Panhauna Primary School in Amethi in March 2021.
The tragedy has left the community in shock, raising questions about domestic safety and the impacts of unresolved conflict. Amethi’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Harendra Kumar, confirmed that an FIR has been filed against Chandan for murder based on a complaint from Sunil’s father, Ram Gopal. "The accused should die the way my son died," Ram Gopal lamented, expressing deep sorrow and anger at the loss of his family.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential consequences of unresolved disputes and the urgent need for effective conflict resolution mechanisms within families. As investigations continue, the affected community mourns the loss of a family torn apart by violence.
