Pune, India – A tragic incident struck the Pimpri-Chinchwad area early this morning when a water tank collapsed, resulting in the deaths of five workers and leaving seven others seriously injured. The accident occurred around 8 AM in Sadguru Nagar, Bhosari, where the tank was constructed at a height of twelve feet for the use of laborers residing in a nearby camp. Eyewitnesses reported that several workers were bathing beneath the water tank when it suddenly gave way, causing chaos and panic. Emergency services, including the fire brigade and local police, quickly arrived at the scene to aid the victims and investigate the collapse.
The five deceased workers were pronounced dead at the site, while the injured were rushed to a private hospital for urgent medical treatment. Municipal Corporation officials, including Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jamble and Deputy Commissioner Manoj Lonkar, have since visited the location to assess the situation and provide support to those affected. Preliminary investigations indicate that the tank, which was not constructed by the municipal corporation, may have suffered from poor construction standards.
The area where the labor camp is situated is believed to be a red zone, raising concerns about safety and oversight. Commissioner Jamble assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse and to hold those responsible accountable. As the community mourns the tragic loss of life, calls for improved safety measures in construction and labor housing are growing louder. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of adhering to safety regulations in construction to prevent such devastating accidents in the future. Further updates will follow as the investigation unfolds.
