Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In a tragic incident, a Saudi officer and a non-commissioned officer were killed, while another officer sustained injuries during an attack on a military camp in Seiyun, Hadhramaut Governorate, Yemen. The attack took place on Friday evening, November 8, amidst a sports training session, according to a statement from Defence Ministry spokesman Turki Al-Maliki. The military camp, which plays a vital role in supporting coalition forces and training personnel, is significant for its efforts in combating terrorism, smuggling, and facilitating humanitarian initiatives in the war-torn country. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Saturday night, November 9, that the attack was a stark reminder of the ongoing dangers facing military personnel in the region.
Al-Maliki revealed that the assailant, who was affiliated with the Yemeni Ministry of Defense, acted independently and his actions do not reflect the ministry’s principles. Following the attack, the bodies of the deceased officers and the injured officer were evacuated and transported back to the Kingdom. In response to this incident, Al-Maliki assured that joint forces, along with the Yemeni Ministry of Defense, would conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack.
He extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and expressed hopes for a speedy recovery for the injured officer. This incident marks another painful chapter in the Saudi military's history in Hadhramaut. The region has seen previous losses, including the September 2019 death of Colonel Bandar bin Mazid Al-Otaibi and several Saudi and Yemeni troops due to an explosive device while on duty in Shibam Hadhramaut. As the investigation unfolds, the commitment of Saudi forces to stability and security in Yemen remains steadfast, despite the challenges they face in the ongoing conflict.
