Patna – In a bold statement that resonates with the growing political tensions in West Bengal, Union Minister Giriraj Singh asserted that the people of the state are yearning for freedom from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s administration. Speaking with IANS, Singh emphasized that the sentiments, particularly among the Hindu community and the Matua Mahasangha, indicate a strong desire for change ahead of the 2026 polls. The comments follow Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s declaration during the launch of the BJP’s membership drive in Kolkata, where he predicted that the BJP would seize power in West Bengal come the next elections.
Shah criticized other political parties for their dynastic politics, further setting the stage for a contentious electoral battle. “The people of Bengal want freedom from the Trinamool Congress because they want freedom from Bangladeshi infiltrators and corruption,” Singh stated. He continued, “They want freedom from Muslim appeasement. It is clear that the BJP will form the next government in 2026.” Singh did not hold back on his criticisms of the opposition, especially targeting former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.
In response to Yadav's remarks questioning Singh's identity, he remarked, “The world knows the identity of Lalu Yadav’s family. They are well-known for fodder and land-for-job scams, and for creating hatred in the community.” Moreover, Singh raised alarm over what he termed a ‘Rail Jihad’ conspiracy, claiming that attacks on national property, particularly railway derailments, are orchestrated by a specific community. “We are witnessing numerous incidents of train derailments, yet leaders like Rahul Gandhi and the Yadav family remain silent.
They indulge in appeasement politics,” he said. Singh’s comments come in the wake of a recent train mishap that he labeled a terrorist plot, further intensifying the prevailing political discourse. As the 2026 elections draw nearer, the atmosphere in West Bengal is charged with anticipation and rivalry, with both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress preparing for a fierce battle for control of the state. With Singh’s declarations and Shah's promises, the stage is set for a contentious campaign that could reshape the political landscape of West Bengal.
