MUMBAI: The Dharavi police have arrested a man accused of entering a BEST bus in Dharavi and attacking the bus conductor with a knife to steal a bag of money. The accused, identified as Shahbaz Khan, has been arrested and his stolen mobile phone and a knife used in the crime have been seized.
BEST bus number 7, plying on the Pydhonie-Vikhroli Agar route, came to the Yellow Bungalow area in Dharavi on Thursday night and a youth aged between 20 and 22 entered the bus. He tried to snatch the money bag from bus conductor Ashok Dagale. When Dagale resisted, Shahbaz attacked him with a knife and snatched his mobile phone. He sustained severe injuries on his head, neck, back, right hand and stomach. The accused has been booked under Sections 309 (4) (6) and 311 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A case under Section 37 (A) (1) of the IPC has been registered. He has been admitted to Lokmanya Tilak Hospital in Shivamogga and is undergoing treatment.
There were no CCTV cameras or eyewitnesses to the incident. Dharavi police sub-inspector Vikas Shelar and his team visited the crime spot and checked the CCTV footage of the area. However, they did not have any information about the crime. The police team then started an investigation. The police received information that Shahbaz Khan attacked the BEST conductor with a knife and stole it.
During the search of Shahbaz in Dharavi police station limits, it was found that he was in Kavale Chawl area. A police team rushed to the spot and Shahbaz Khan was arrested. Police have seized a knife and mobile phone from the accused. The accused is suspected to be a robber and his arrest is likely to unravel other crimes. After registering the case, the police were able to arrest the accused within four hours without any concrete information.
