A startling event occurred when an Air India flight traveling from Pune to Kochi experienced a fire outbreak just 10 minutes after departing. The incident took place following the plane's departure from Bangalore airport on Saturday evening. Subsequently, the aircraft performed an emergency landing, carrying a total of 179 passengers along with six crew members.
Air India flight IX-1132, originating from Pune and bound for Kochi, arrived at Bangalore airport on Saturday evening before resuming its journey. The flight was scheduled to make a brief stopover at Bangalore airport according to its itinerary. Upon departure for Kochi, the plane encountered an engine fire after 10 minutes of flight, prompting the emergency landing.
All 179 passengers were safely evacuated. This marks the second recent occurrence of an Air India aircraft experiencing a fire incident. On May 17, another Air India flight from Delhi to Bangalore had to make an emergency landing due to a power unit fire alarm, with approximately 175 passengers on board.
Regarding the Bangalore incident, an Air India spokes person commented, "The flight from Pune to Kochi had a layover at Bangalore airport for a few hours. Shortly after taking off for Kochi, the engine caught fire. The plane then performed an emergency landing, ensuring the safe evacuation of all passengers. The fire is suspected to have originated from a short circuit, although investigations are ongoing."
