Over 70 individuals have been reportedly injured in a Russia accident involving nine coaches of a passenger train derailing. Local media reports in Russia suggest that seven people are in critical condition. Currently, there have been no confirmed fatalities. The train carrying passengers was traveling from Vorkuta in the northeastern region of Komi to the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.
The two places are separated by a distance of five thousand kilometers. The train involved in the accident is called Train 511. The derailment of the coaches could have been caused by the recent intense rainfall. Reports indicate that the train operator stated that train 511 consisted of 14 coaches and accommodated 232 passengers.
Traffic has been halted on the impacted road. As per railway authorities, the incident occurred close to Inta city at approximately 6.12 pm local time. As per a message shared on Telegram, authorities have deployed emergency service personnel and rescue teams to the location. Efforts are being made to help passengers who have been injured.
The section is currently closed to traffic. Data on the victims is currently being gathered. In terms of geography, the northeastern region of Komi is located north of the Arctic Circle. Investigation into the matter led by DG Oleg Belozerov's task force established.
Russian Railways has established a team led by General Director Oleg Belozerov to look into the derailment of train 511. The Northwestern Transport Prosecutor's Office is conducting a criminal inquiry into the train derailment.
